Chelsea Physic Garden

Chelsea · Sloane Square tube

Founded in 1673 by the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries, Chelsea Physic Garden is London's oldest botanic garden and one of the oldest in Europe. Tucked behind high brick walls along the Thames Embankment, this peaceful four-acre garden contains more than 5,000 different plant species, including rare and unusual medicinal plants, the largest outdoor fruiting olive tree in Britain, and a Garden of World Medicine. The garden also played a key role in the cotton industry by supplying cotton seeds to the American colonies in the eighteenth century.
